I would recommend the IDPSet approach.

This can be done fairly easily.

You can download IDPSet from You must login or register to view this content.

Next, install that onto your PS3 as a package.

Then, open it.

Press X on dump eid_root_key.

Then press on Make CEX and DEX Dumps. Make sure to have a USB in the right slot of the PS3.

After that, press on Convert to DEX. It will convert you to DEX and restart the PS3.

After that, you will be on 4.65.1 D-REX.

Then from there, simply update to 4.70.1 D-REX and you are all set

i acutally tried this but i tryd to update the ps3 through xmb of 4.70 d rex ill try recovery mode

did u use the dex downgrader? that will put u on 3.55 dex, then from there u could have updated to 4.70 d-rex

i was on 4.65.1 rex till i switched to dex it was on 4.65.1 d rex i went to 4.70 drex in recovery mode

oh yup i see, if u want to go to a lower firmware like ITA dex then remember u are going to have to downgrade with the 3.55 dex downgrader

i never been on ita LULZ

its a good firmware, id suggest u take a look if u get bored of rebug
