(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey folks!

I'm cutting right to the chase.

I am sort of new the the modding community. I jailbroke my ps3 and did some package installing etc a couple of years ago when 3.55 was OFW. Haven't touched my PS3 since I updated to the next OFW and lost all my possibillities of jailbreaking again, until i found out about the E3 Flasher. I bought one a couple og days ago and have been doing alot of reading to catch up on the innovation that has been going on since those glorious 3.55-times.
I've read all about installing the Flasher and downgrading the PS3, but I stumbled upon quite a few questions that I can seem to get answered clearly with the information-chaos out there on the web.

1) After i downgrade to 3.55, do I Jailbreak with the old USB PS3UPDATE.PUP method and the install CFW? (Yes or No will suffice)

2) I'm no developer or hacker, main goal is to play online and play backup games, which CFW should I install? i know about Rogero, Habib and Rebug.

3) What is rebugging, do I need to know?

4) If I want to play online, can I use a CFW lower than the OFW? Let's say i use Rogero 4.40, can I play online now that the OFW is 4.76?

5) ^ Follow-up to #4. What packages do I need to play online, and how do I do it safely?

6. optional/not so important) Everywhere I read about the importance of backups of the PS3 when you downgrade, does that mean backing up the DUMP files you get when you use the E3 Flasher?

Thank you!

But I don't think I fully understand. After what I understand, the whole point with Rebug REX 4.45.3 is that you can switch back and forth from CEX to DEX.

So you dont get the "full version" of DEX with only the Rebug REX?

When I install REX, and convert to DEX through Rebug Toolbox, I will have DEX capabilities right, which means I can do RTM and GSC lobbies on BO2 for example, right?
-> So why would I need D-REX if I can do all that by only installing REX and swapping to DEX?

If I do as you say, convert to DEX through Rebug Toolbox, and install D-REx, doesn't that mean that I can't go back to CEX? (I want to be able to switch back and forth from CEX to DEX due to the fact that i've read that it is easier to get banned using DEX if you don't know what you're doing).

i dont know much aabout rebug tbh as i have ITA but from my undrstanding dex has full support of tmapi, where as REX has a mix of options and im not sure exacly what is supported and not, nut if u goto dex then there isnt really much point going back to cex, and the ban rate is about the same for cex and dex, it depends what games you mod, if u mod old asf games like the older cods the ban chances are slim but if u mod new cods like bo3 and AW the ban chances are higher. to avoid bans wher possible u should use antiban, also spoof your cid,

bans are unavoidable, u can be banned for just signing in, spoofing is not 100% ban proof, nothin is, but they reduce the chance of being banned

Also, I've seen alot of tutorials on how to get online after installing Rebug 4.75/4.76, using PSNpatch, PSNninja and/or SENenabler. Do you have any tips for me on how to do that. Also, when you use SENenabler, it disables you CFW. Does that mean that you can't use/run any mods, such as RTM tools or CCAPI?

And if thats correct, how to you get the mods to work?

Just let me know if you dont understand my question, im trying to formulate myself as good as I can, but its new and complicated information for me, so exuse me if you dont understand what im asking Smile

if you are on dex u do not need to spoof (one of the Ups for dex) if u wer on rex u would need to spoof, when u disable sylicalls you can still mod and connect tools and stuff, it just makes ur ps3 emulate like a ofw ps3 so it looks legit to sony, but yes one of the downsides is tht it disables the use of homebrew applications, but things and tools still connect so u ccan still mod

Disabling the CFW means disabling the CFW syscalls. Mods still works, so does CCAPI. only downside is you can't load another backup without restarting the whole console. (atleast that's what happens on my side)

Also i would suggest using Webman, it gives all the capacities of Multiman, PSNPatch and PSNinja. You can browse thru all your games without leaving the XMB, it clears your history and disable all syscall by just pressing 2 buttons on your pad. It's awesome and included in Rebug toolbox Smile

Thank for your reply Smile

That cleared it up for me, thanks!
It seems like you have a quite good understanding of how these things work, so do you think you can try to clarify this for me;

The first CFW I will install when I get to downgrade my PS3 will be Rebug REX. I have read that you can swao between CEX and DEX easily and i've seen some tutorials, which seem simple enough.

So thats why i'm wondering why the other people that commented here say that I should download D-REX instead. I thought the whole point of the REX firmwate was that you can swap between the CEX and DEX.

From what I understand D-REX is only neccesary if you're already on a DEX firmware.

Kronos (the helpful guy that commented before you) said that the REX does'nt give you full DEX capabilities when swapping from CEX, is that right, and what DEX capabilities do I lose?

last question, what does loading a backup mean?

I am not quite sure what capabilitys are lost when u are on rex,

Backups are copys of games that you have on your cfw, one of the great things about a cfw is that you can play games with out a disc, bit like a psn game, it also means that you can torrent games and play them on your cfw, even tho homebrew developers are against piracy for legal reasons, to be able to play these backups u have to "mount them" and this can be done in multiman or IRISHMAN by clicking on the game, it makes it so your cfw will read the backup file instead of reading a disc per say, when the cfw syllicals are disabled it means that it disables the use of homebrew such as multiman so u cannot load up another game after you have disabled syllicals, but once u restart your ps3 it will goto normal and u can mount games and access homebrew etc

hope i helped
