(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey folks!

I'm cutting right to the chase.

I am sort of new the the modding community. I jailbroke my ps3 and did some package installing etc a couple of years ago when 3.55 was OFW. Haven't touched my PS3 since I updated to the next OFW and lost all my possibillities of jailbreaking again, until i found out about the E3 Flasher. I bought one a couple og days ago and have been doing alot of reading to catch up on the innovation that has been going on since those glorious 3.55-times.
I've read all about installing the Flasher and downgrading the PS3, but I stumbled upon quite a few questions that I can seem to get answered clearly with the information-chaos out there on the web.

1) After i downgrade to 3.55, do I Jailbreak with the old USB PS3UPDATE.PUP method and the install CFW? (Yes or No will suffice)

2) I'm no developer or hacker, main goal is to play online and play backup games, which CFW should I install? i know about Rogero, Habib and Rebug.

3) What is rebugging, do I need to know?

4) If I want to play online, can I use a CFW lower than the OFW? Let's say i use Rogero 4.40, can I play online now that the OFW is 4.76?

5) ^ Follow-up to #4. What packages do I need to play online, and how do I do it safely?

6. optional/not so important) Everywhere I read about the importance of backups of the PS3 when you downgrade, does that mean backing up the DUMP files you get when you use the E3 Flasher?

Thank you!

1, i would highly reccomend upgrading to Rebug 4.75.3 D-REX
2. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
3. maybe you mean Debugging?
4. Yes if you use DEX-D-REX you can play online "without" a X.XX Spoofer
5. I highly sudgest you download PSNPATCH and PSNinja to not get banned.
6. yes you should keep backups of your playstation dumps in case you get bricked

pretty much as a follow up of what Tristan said he explained it pretty well,

debugging is like seeing how the game works, pretty much developer speak.

rebug is a very good firmware, it enables you to go from cex to dex in a matter of minutes, (cex is a retail ps3 and dex is like a developer ps3 (a lot better for modding!!))

if u wanna really get into modding i would suggest switching to dex, it is pretty easy and if u need i can link some vids, going to dex will enable you to use TMAPI (Target Manager API) this is what is used for modding the game, and used by developers for debugging the ps3. TMAPI can only be used on a dex ps3. there is another RTM (Real Time Modding) tool is CCAPI (ControlConsole API) developed by Enstone so u can mod on Cex and Dex, this also enables you to mod over WiFi, where as Tmapi will only work via a wired Connection (i think).

to be able to mod yes, i would use PSNPatch and PSNinja as these will lower the risk of being banned, but also some essentials to modding would be Rebug ToolBox, IRISHMAN and MultiMan, IRISHMAN and MultiMan are back up managers and can be used to see the files of your ps3 and change them and stuff (like a PC sort of) and can also be used to mount games and play them with out discs, they also have the ability to copy games from the disc to your HDD or external HDD, also used to create an FTP server so FileZilla can connect to your ps3. Rebug toolbox is used to swap flashes to go from CEX to DEX and can preform many other features to enable your ps3 to run very well.

i would always make backups of your ps3, such as the flashes (to convert to CEX and DEX) also make some back ups of games etc on a External HDD so if you have to reset your ps3 u dont have to re download all the games, ylu can simply just copy them back over. this is optional but i would also make backups of the important stuff such as flashes on to the internet, such as your personal drop box, so that if your PC craps out u wont loose them, or if need by u have easy access to it.

i hope i helped a little, if you need anything else please ask me Smile

Thank you for your detailed reply Kronos! I really appreciate it Smile

That really helped me out.

follow-up question though, MultiMan and IRISHMAN are essentially the same thing right? So I can just pick one of them? If so I think i'll go for MulitMan as i've used this one before Smile

One last thing for now, I see people using Thermal paste when they owngrade (or rather after they downgrade). Is this really neccessary, or can I skip that part? First of all I dont know where to get it here in my country, and if it's not absolutely vital, i would like to skip that part Smile

Thanks in advance!

Thanks you for the reply Tristan!

I've read that D-REX is for users that already has DEX installed. Should I rather use the Rebug REX? Because as i understood it you can go from CEX to DEX on Rebug REX in the blink of an eye!

so D-REX or REX, what to choose? Smile

yes multiman will be good for u as it is more user friendly in a way i find, but if you goto dex u have got ot enable BD emulator so the game will mount, i didnt now this so when i converted to dex my multiman didnt work so that is why i switched to IRISHMAN

and i dont know much about the ps3 hardware side of things but i do know that thermal paste is essential as it cools ur ps3 down or some shit, if u didnt have thermal paste your ps3 would pver heat and fuck up, u could get it on ebay or something im pretty sure it would be on ebay

if u need anything else please quote me back so i get the notification, the quote button is in the bottom right hand corner,

ill reply for Tristan since i am here now,

rebug d-rex is the Dex version of Rebug, u would switch to this after you have converted to dex,

u would use the rebug rex firmware to switch from cex to dex as rex has some dex capabilitys that enables you to rewrite your flash

D-rex is like the full dex version and can oly be instaled on dex ps3

so u would install rebug rex, the latest version is always better, then you would convert your flahses, this can all be done with the latest version of Rebug toolbox, then you would install rebug d-rex for the version of firmware that the rex was, so if u was going to install rebug rex 4.75.3 then you would download the D-rex version of 4.75.3 as well and install that after converting to dex,

there are many tuts on how to convert to dex with rebug toolbox on youtube, if you are really stuck i sure i could help you or link you to a vid

Thank you!

But I don't think I fully understand. After what I understand, the whole point with Rebug REX 4.45.3 is that you can switch back and forth from CEX to DEX.

So you dont get the "full version" of DEX with only the Rebug REX?

When I install REX, and convert to DEX through Rebug Toolbox, I will have DEX capabilities right, which means I can do RTM and GSC lobbies on BO2 for example, right?
-> So why would I need D-REX if I can do all that by only installing REX and swapping to DEX?

If I do as you say, convert to DEX through Rebug Toolbox, and install D-REx, doesn't that mean that I can't go back to CEX? (I want to be able to switch back and forth from CEX to DEX due to the fact that i've read that it is easier to get banned using DEX if you don't know what you're doing).

Thanks!

Also, I've seen alot of tutorials on how to get online after installing Rebug 4.75/4.76, using PSNpatch, PSNninja and/or SENenabler. Do you have any tips for me on how to do that. Also, when you use SENenabler, it disables you CFW. Does that mean that you can't use/run any mods, such as RTM tools or CCAPI?

And if thats correct, how to you get the mods to work?

Just let me know if you dont understand my question, im trying to formulate myself as good as I can, but its new and complicated information for me, so exuse me if you dont understand what im asking Smile

Disabling the CFW means disabling the CFW syscalls. Mods still works, so does CCAPI. only downside is you can't load another backup without restarting the whole console. (atleast that's what happens on my side)

Also i would suggest using Webman, it gives all the capacities of Multiman, PSNPatch and PSNinja. You can browse thru all your games without leaving the XMB, it clears your history and disable all syscall by just pressing 2 buttons on your pad. It's awesome and included in Rebug toolbox Smile
