My PS3 will randomly freeze ( mostly on start up) and when it does it shows a very weird glitchy screen that looks like the blue screen of death but it gray and black

Chances are your RSX may be beginning to die, is your console a Phat?

Thread has been moved to PS3 Mods Questions and Inquiries for a better response.

Reinstall your firmware, and/or maybe another firmware and see if the problem continues. If it does, I would also agree that you are brinking overheat (ylod).

I have no knowledge of replacing one but that may be an option?

OK before Jumping to conclusions (or the worst) Be sure to check all HDMI or other connections going from the TV/Monitor and make sure they are all secure.
I suggest Reinstalling your firmware as it may be corrupt. If all doesnt work it is probably a dead RSX.
