Could it possibly be your fan, since I'm thinking it'll have to be a moving part rather then a stationary part that's making the noise?

There really is no saying, who knows what it even is lol. Could just be thick dust/debri or something solid could have sucked up in your ps3(or left in the ps3,perhaps?), somehow. Im not ridding the probability of it being the disc drive either, but there's really no saying without opening it up. Just sounds like shit in the fan to me..

If you do nothing about it, the problem will get worse in my opinion... you should consider opening it up and clean inside.

I took my disc out and the sound is gone, so what would that be?
