Once you sign into psn on cfw, you are forever at risk of being banned. There are different types of bans:
CID(console ID), PSID (psn account), mac, IP. Most bans from will be CID and PSID.

If Sony bans your CID = Console (no matter what or if new account) cannot access PSN - This can be uplifted (unban) with a new CID
If Sony bans your PSID = The account (no matter what or if new account) cannot access PSN - This cannot be uplifted.

You can also get isolated CID and PSID bans from individual games. Meaning just the game bans your CID and/or PSID. You can still sign into PSN, but you cannot access that game(s) online modes.


Although there is no 100% guaranteed way to keep you from getting banned, there is a method of spoofing your CID and PSID (psn account) once you are online.
There is a method involving PsnPatch and a usb
or, you can use CCAPI to spoof your CID/PSID
You can also use software such as PSNinja to wipe history
Some people do not think this is effective, and might even put you more at risk. I disagree personally, but it is your choice.


EDIT sry bro my mistake*:
If the console currently has a valid CID, you should be able to sign into PSN once your cfw version matches sony's official. Since you are on 4.76, You will need a spoofer. A spoofer would be needed (really only for CEX) only to match the cfw to sony's official firmware, which is currently 4.78. You can use software such as SENenabler or Archspoofer to do this.

If at any point the ps3 asks you to update the PS3 FIRMWARE, simply click circle and cancel it. Do not let it happen. It would only ask you that if you were on CEX and tried to sign in without spoofing to the latest sony firmware. There is an option somewhere on the second column on the xmb for "auto update", disable that. Never update to official firmware.

If a GAME asks for an update, then that is fine. You can update games.

As long as you are not attempting a CEX-DEX conversion or messing with files, there is not much you can do to hurt or brick it if you are just playing games etc.. If you are unsure of yourself, I'm sure you are more than welcome to make a post asking for help.

Notice my little edit. My mistake, I was thinking the latest sony firmware was 4.76, it is actually 4.78, so you will in fact need a spoofer (only absolutely NEEDED for CEX.)
