Post: Is this still on CFW ?
02-02-2016, 03:14 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So my nephew's PS3 was running CFW 4.76 CEX and he accidentally upgraded to 4.78 OFW. However the update fails at 75% when installing.

The PS3 still asking for firmware 4.76 or later. Not 4.78

I have tried to install 4.76 CFW again with another HDD of course since the old one just keep installing update.
But right after the PS3 preparing the update it says "The Update Data Corrupted"

So before i messed up with this PS3. I would like to ask is this still on CFW ? Does there something i can do to install CFW again without flasher ?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Do a barrel roll!
you can also just check the "System Information" and take a look, which FW is shown. If it is 4.78 u know u have bad luck

The only thing you can do now is downgrade it again to 3.55 using a E3 flasher

You'll need to downgrade your console again, since you've updated it to OFW. What's the CECH-XXXX number of your console, so I can advise which tool can do this for you?

The PUP you provided works like a charm thanks! Installed fine on the newly formatted HDD.
Amazingly when i switch back to the old HDD, the OFW's update loop has gone. Then i use this CFW from rebug before going to the current latest one You must login or register to view this content.

No data was lost and we are on CFW again. Thanks to @DRObythePoUnD and everyone in this thread. You are AMAZING

Thanks for your attention but this time we could save a harder effort.
The console is Slim CECH-2512A the beautiful white. Previously installed rebug 4.76 in cex mode.

I would like to buy him a drink and talk about humanity's existence Geo
I'm currently digging for what causing the OFW update to stuck yet i could just assuming there was a corrupted update data or the previous rebug's cfw was in REBUG mode.
Joonie said since the update hasn't been completed the coreOS wasn't updated.

Yeah, you can either downgrade it with the following tools: E3 Nor Flasher, Teensy, Progskeet. Other than that, there is nothing else you can do... It'll need to be downgraded again.
