you heatsinks most likely not sitting right, did you put the metal back on the bottom? if not it's that, it also could be that there's not enough pressure or that thermal paste is bad, atm with my ps3 i have to use ps3 without case or i get ylod/RLOD cause by bad thermal paste i'm just havn't got around to ordering some more, though it's important that you replace it, like with my cech2102B it ran fine without old dry thermal paste but my cech2002A has a fit and want's to kill itself so if metal plate is on bottom and you haven't replaced thermal paste recommend you do so, it is possible that it's something else but these are the two most common issues so look at this first

Did you apply any thermal paste before turning it off, also just like Offline said. Did you take your heat sinks off, or are they level? Also, note don't turn it on constantly otherwise you could end up getting the YLOD (Yellow Light Of Death) which you don't want...

your awesome, you have helped me out fair amount of times gotta keep it up, you probably don't remember but i said i'd replace my thermal paste like 2 months ago and still haven't that's why i have to have top off my ps3 or it gets RLOD then YLOD till it cools down even with fan mod so i use use aircon and have top off for now, don't need to tell me why i need thermal paste trust me i've been working with consoles and PC long enough to know. ps3 be at 65 degrees and i can't turn it on lol i need to fix that before it gets so bad i have to reball or reflow it.

Yeah, fair enough :p. May I ask which console is this, Phat or Slim-Line? Also, what the CECH-XXXX number, trying to identify how old it is... Since, Sony for older generation consoles used metal parts, as you know metal is a good conductor of heat. Making the whole console a big oven :p

cech2002A, not as bad as the fats but as you know the early slims had heat issues to like my cech2102B never had heat issues ever, and idk if you remember me saying i do console repairs downgrade services etc from time to time i don't charge many unless it cost me money but not been doing them lately clearly lol no thermal paste. i was the one that asked the question about best way to get ylod consoles cause i fix them as a hobby, one i can't fix are parts or get cid extracted through the psu in the fat models with metal psu case got really hot, and the Fan on the 2 port fats being on the left didn't get enough air. i can't remember what all the models for fats are off my head all i now is i know what i'm working with soon as i see the usb ports cech and motherboard. mine issue with my slim is my psu it gets really hot on my cehc2002A and on my OFW cech3002B and my old PS3 with no BD CECH2102B the psu don't heat up so much or the board components in general.

Yeah, I did create a thread You must login or register to view this content. about console repairs for consoles. But yeah, I understand your point. Just make sure you don't touch your console when it's on, wouldn't want you to absorb an electric shock.

i made that mistake when i left the psu cause off on a cechj02 i touched the metal inside that distributes a lot of heat was not a good idea i learned my lesson, so not work with a exposed components that conduct large amounts of electricity when testing a psu though it was by accident i now just use a different psu instead of fixing it lol biggest mistake i ever made on a PS3 unit, now i pay attention and use a spare psu there not worth fixing i have a lot of spares, i've never tried it but would a cech2501 psu work in a cech200XX i've never cech the voltage or pins to see if i could
