You will not lose it if you Restore Filesystem, Restore Default Settings. You will only lose it if you update to OFW.

Your firmware is stored on your PS3's flash memory, so you can do anything to your HDD and your firmware won't be affected, only games, game saves an ect. stored on your HDD. Just never update your system to OFW and you'll be fine.
