My question is does doing this help prevent ban? If it does can I change the console id to a bunch of 0's when I go online and play with a less probability of getting banned?

Some say it does. I personally never did that, but after signing in, you set your Current IDPS to 32 0's.

Doing so will prevent nothing. You still used your good CID to access online. Spoofing or changing it after signing in will not prevent bans ( I have tested this theory ). To put it simple you can say that sony can still detect which CID was used too access online and that means your good CID. So I would not waste time with this because it is highly unlikely it will prevent any bans.
