Why would you want to brick your ps3? I'm pretty downgrading isn't as simple as bricking your ps3. I'm not sure where you heard that from, but it sounds foolish to me.

Any damage beyond repair is considered a brick.
Put your ps3 together as if you were flashing it and run a wire across the pins of the NOR/NAND chip while the console is running. There you go, a true brick.

There is no way to downgrade a console like that. It involves flashing the chip you just shorted and there is no way to do that without physical hardware.period.
