Honestly.. I wouldn't buy a fat ps3, unless it's a backwards compatible mint condition one. I would go for a slim.

Yeah that's good, but just remember... fat ps3's are 8+ years old. They need a lot of work done in order for them to function. That's why slim's are more ideal nowadays because they are newer.

my version of work, cut heat spreaders and replace the thermal paste if unit is already running good, then put new thermal paste on top and install a water block/s and an SSD, from there i still have to work out the rest idk what type of radiator i should use etc. but when finished will run under 40 degrees easily if i make the psu external cause the original psu got really hot was like an oven, and as for any games i wanna play that i've backed up i'll use external hdd, but most my games are disc so 120GBs will be fine with SSD, any other improvements you think could be made to a backwards compatible ps3? i was originally was going to do it to my cechJ02 cause it has gotten YLOD twice and GLOD once. But the older ps3's i know i can install a xbox power supply on so that i will do, that and i can play ps2 without having to do crap and the emulators don't look the best, like on GTA SA i was getting frame rate drops and glitchy image on the slim . CECHC02 is what i want, though i know how bad they are with the YLOD. so finding a working condition one will be hard.
