Post: Disc in PS3 when flashing with e3?
03-27-2016, 07:26 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I have a blu ray drive acting crazy on me.

I made sure it worked before downgrading, but now the drive will take/spit out a disc but won't spin or read one. I tried swapping out the drive with one from a same model ps3 (cech 2501b) that I know works. Same thing, takes it/spits it but won't spin it.

I'm starting to wonder if I mistakenly left a disc in while going through the e3 process, though I'm not sure that even matters?

At this point, I'm considering reflashing but not sure it's worth it since games still play from hdd.

Any ideas?

Most likely as I don't think it would make that spit sound. You may have to open up and remove it if it's there. If not, check to make sure everything is connected correctly.

There's no disc in now. I can put a disc in and eject one with no probs, it just won't spin. Even a new blu ray drive does the same thing.

The disc drive should have been out of the console for the entire duration of the downgrade/flash process. Never done such a thing.

You are aware that you need to swap logic boards when you install a new disc drive? You must always keep your original in the console.

What cfw are you on? If you installed a nobd firmware, your disc drive will be inactive until you change firmwares.

Will it read cd/dvds?Insert one and scroll to music/videos and see if it will read. If it reads dvds but not blurays, then your laser is shot.

You're correct. Wow. Not sure what I was thinking. So, can cross that off the list of possible issues.

This model's logic board is built into the motherboard.

No, it won't read, nor spin, any sort of disc.

I'm thinking more and more it's one of the connectors on the motherboard.

You have a 25xxx series, that one has the silver ribbon on the bottom of the disc drive iirc. Are you sure this ribbon is in correctly? Is the ribbon damaged? Gold/silver pins at the end of the ribbon broken or damaged?

The grey/blk cables will power the drive, but the silver ribbon is for logic board, disc motor, and laser activity.

Yup, 2501b.

Changed the ribbon out on the bottom and it's working now. I didn't think that was the issue bc I tried changing out the entire drive, ribbons and all, with no luck.

Thanks.
