Did you do any recent major changes? As in a firmware change?

For one, make sure they are on the same internet connection.
I personally like to share my internet connection from my laptop to my ps3 via an ethernet cord.
On your computer turn on internet sharing.
On your ps3 set connection to shared.
Make sure when you start up your ps3 that your computer is automatically set to share over ethernet and not recieve internet (ie thinks its gonna get internet from the ps3 as if it were a modem. This will mess it up.)
My ps3's ip is like 10.42.0.97 and it has blazing fast speeds.

 Maybe your ftp has stopped working? If you use stuff like sen enabler it can prevent them from working (I think).
