could it be bricked? though you shouldn't brick from, installing ita so its mostly ylod, my slim has semi / light ylod, which is when it gets ylod after its gets warm, console will run as long as its turned on but if i turn it off i have to wait 5 mins if its over 55 degrees before it will turn on without the ylod stopping me or i can jump start it by spinning the fan and pushing the bent side of my board down and turning on the console.

new paste usally don't do help once its already happened, if ylod can be repaired but mostly will happen again unless your board isn't bent, in that case a full reball will permanently fix or a well done reflow with flux if you dont bend the board could work, once the board gets bent though you will most likely get the ylod again at some point depends on how bad it is and how may cracks are in the board from it, its lot like metal it cracks in both the board and the metal in the board and the little cracks will stuff the flow causing ylod or freezing random shut off and components not working theres more factors to this but like you said getting new ps3 is best option there cheep as hell now as its old gen, like i could walk into eb games and price a downgradable console for $128AU or price one off the internet or local sales for 40 - 100 no problem so if you have a flasher you can do it yourself really cheap.. i dont like getting new consoles though, ive had my ps3 since 2010 and i miss using my old ps3 when i use an other, ive gown attached to my old console lol, all them years of my life wasted on it haha, anyways. im only 17 so its not so bad.

if its bricked you will need a good nor or nands backup and a flasher, then have to solder a wire to 2 points on the ps3 sbe and gnd i think, i know the points for slim consoles i don't know the names of the points though. with nand console you don't need the wire. but not likely you have the dumps as you probably bought the console and never backed it up,
