I believe that's a fat system? So yes it can be jailbroken, but it needs to be downgraded using hardware such as an E3 Flasher, or Teensy++ since you probably own a fat. For all the terms, this should be a good start for you:

OFW = Original Firmware from Sony
CFW / CEX = Custom firmware, a professionally modified open PS3 firmware
DEX = A DEBUG Firmware (Developer) only test / debug PS3 consoles
SEX = Kiosk / Demo Firmwares information on all PS3 versions
MFW = User-Created Custom Firmware

where would i get a E3 Flasher, or Teensy+? could i use a usb?

You will need a hardware flasher depending on your ps3 model.

You can find tutorials all over the net, the most important thing is to only take the method. Make sure your files are up to date.

OFW = Official firmware - these are SONY official firmwares

CFW = Custom firmware - These are unofficial SONY firmwares that have been modified for use with a jailbroken ps3 console

CEX = Retail model region

DEX = Developer model region

CEX consoles are basically what you and I would find, retail consoles you can buy. There are true DEX consoles and these are real developer units, but most of what you will see and hear about are only CEX consoles with a conversion to DEX. CEX is what you will start off with for general "basic" modding. DEX is mostly for developers and debugging.
