I think most people are just using Webman to control their fan..Other than that you can find controlfan pkg files on Ps3Brew for just about any firmware i think..

If you are overheating or think you may be in danger of overheating, you should change your thermal paste (Arctic Silver 5 only,for ps3s).

Fan software will aid a good working console in preventing overheating, but it will not solve an overheat problem. Hope that makes sense.
