First off, lets :
1. Start the console
2. On the XMB, second column from the left, go to system settings>system information
What firmware version does it say???
hopefully 3.55
If so, we can start by installing a downgrader
To install an update to a ps3:
1. Download your cfw
You must login or register to view this content.
2. Rename the file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" (no quotes)
3. On the root of a fat32 formatted usb flash drive, create a folder named "PS3"
4. Inside the "PS3" folder, create a folder named "UPDATE"
5. Inside the "UPDATE" folder, place the "PS3UPDAT.PUP"
6. Insert the usb into the furthest right most usb port of the ps3
7. Boot the ps3 into recovery mode(alt: on the xmb go to to of second column from the left, update system)
8. Select option Update system(alt: on the xmb go to to of second column from the left, update system)
9. Select from usb device
10. Follow prompt and install
Now you are on Rogero downgrader!
From here you can QA flag your console. This will allow you to install cfw and insure you do not brick. You only need to QA flag the console once unless you install ofw over it.
To do so:
1. Download
You must login or register to view this content.
2. Place the file on the root of your usb flash drive,
3. Insert the usb flash drive into your ps3
4. On the XMB, go to games column, select option "install_package_files", find the pkg file and install it
5. Once installed, find and open QA flag in the games column of the XMB
Your console should beep and restart
6. Once it does, On the XMB go to the very bottom of second column from the left, press (L1,L2,L3,R1,R2,DownDpad altogether) and debug settings should pop up under network settings!
This means you are free to install a (CEX) cfw!
You can use the directions above to install one of your choice.
If your cfw version does not match that of sony's current official firmware, which is currently 4.80, then you will need a firmware spoof to be able to go online.
such as ARCH spoofer, can be found here
You must login or register to view this content.
Other than that, you will need a ccapi compatible with your firmware, and everything else is preference.
Can't really go wrong from there.
GL! Need any more help, feel free to ask.
