I am pretty new to the scene (well, not new entirely but havent been envolved in a few years so I am a little out of date with everything).

Ive recently jailbroken my 3.55 system, and am currently on the new 4.80.1 REX.

My main goal for jailbreaking is basically to learn more about EBOOTs and modding game patches and whatnot. not necessarily for online use, mainly just for educational and personal fun. My understanding is that I need to be on D-REX in order to establish an FTP connection to change EBOOT files.. is this the case? if so, what would be the safest way to switch from REX to D-REX?

Next, what would be recommended to establish an FTP connection to do this?

I am currently wanting to mod GTAV and have just purchased the newest Serendipity SPRX and wish to use it and learn more about it.

Since you're on the latest rebug, it should have a FTP plugin that loads every time you turn on your console so you can transfer files back and forth from the XMB without the use of Toolbox, Blackbox ect. Webman also has a built in FTP plugin that allows file transfers at the XMB. FTP will work on both CEX/DEX.

You can use rebug toolbox to switch from CEX/DEX or vise versa.

I suggest you install the D-REX FW over your current. Since you are on Rebug you can just install the firmware over your current one. REBUG Downloads: You must login or register to view this content. And as stated, you can just transfer files from the XMB since you will be on Rebug, instead of MM or any other app.

good to know, thank you. i ended up downgrading back to 3.55 then going to D-REX from there, and have been using IrisMan.. didnt know i could do it straight from the XMB!

I'm new to jailbreaking console's and I'm looking for some help. I have a PS3 slim Cech-2501a manufactured November/2010 currently on 4.80 just wondering what I would have to do to jailbreak it.
