(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My last ps3 bricked and ive been having several issues with it before so I decided to just go ahead and get a new ps3/cfw Sal . my question is how do i go about swapping my hard drive from my bricked ps3 to the new one?? does the new have to be jailbroken to swap them and be on the same firmware? or can i just take it out the box and swap them and that be it and not lose any of my data? and will i have to format the hdd since its not the original one? thanks Smile

Your best bet would to be format the old HDD, then put it in your new PS3 and install the firmware from there.

I gotta go with what Ythen said as that sounds like the simplest and easiest way to go about it.

You will need to reformat any hdd you stick into a ps3 but just insterting a new hdd into a ps3 will mandatory reformat..The hard drive does not carry the jailbreak. You can only have 1 hdd formatted to a ps3 at a time.
I don't know how to save your information or data sorry, afaik it is not possible to carry all of it over..

1. Install the hdd into the ps3.
2. Boot ps3 into recovery mode
3. Select option "restore ps3 system"
this will wipe everything. When it's finished you will be brought to a black screen asking for your last syscall (last fw installed)
4. Reinstall your firmware

done!

Sometimes you can just install a new hdd and boot the ps3, some ps3s will reformat the hdd without even actually doing anything off of the xmb..

Okay so when I get my 3.55 ofw I should install my cfw of choice and then install new hdd then restore it and install my last fw? Also can I install any CEX cfw on top of 3.55 ofw?

I usually just use rogero downgrader as 3.55, then qa flag (if its first time), then yes you can install any (CEX) cfw of your choice.

install the new hdd and let it format to the ps3, then just reinstall your cfw
