So my first ever PS3 was one of the first version as seen in the image above. A few years ago the PS3 bricked itself during an update and I haven't managed to get it working ever since. I attempted replacing the harddrive in it with a spare PS3 harddrive that I own but nothing happened (Didn't think it would, but thought it was worth a try). After doing a clearout of my room I found this gem again and I don't really want to throw it out. Is there anything I can do with it? What are my options in terms of 'unbricking' it or fixing it?

Tried that, turns out Sony made these things fireproof. They must've expected this type of thing to happen!

Really like your avatar. Can you access safe mode?

that means it can be recovered, if it was a fall brick you would not be able to access it, one question where you one the recalled firmware that bricked a lt of ps3's? in think it was 2013, if so install the firmware up frim it that will fix that, from what you said you have a nand model, maybe so that would mean that swapping the hdd will not help you, for all we know it might be that your usb is not fat32 lol, anyway if you can access the recovery menu it can be recovered that i have no doubt about as sony use to fix this issue all the time and i've done it myself a few times thinking i was fucked

It was around 2013 Gasp I didn't know they recalled PS3's I thought it was just mine dying of old age! I'll try reinstalling the firmware via USB again and making sure the USB is formatted correctly. I'll let you know how it goes, cheers

i had the issue, some times the ps3 has trouble accepting updates. but anyways tell me if you got it to work or not, if i remember rightly it was 4.53 ofw that got recalled could have been something else. its on the wiki anyways, cause the update put a lot of ps3 console's into a loop including mine, i just downloaded update from site and installed, install via recovery menu. mostly will error the first time but go into menu again it should start copying, though i'm not sure if 4.80 over corrupt firmware
