Do not install a current update ofw or your ps3 will not be jailbroken anymore and youll have to re downgrade the ps3 have you tried reinstalling the cfw?

Reinstall the last firmware that was on the system. Then go from there.

Thank you for replying, unfortunately I wasn't home when my partner had already started trying to "fix" it and now it won't turn on abd beeps 3 times before flashing its red light. Have not seen the yellow one yet. I think it is beyond reparable now.
