1. Boot ps3 into recovery mode
2. Select option "restore ps3 system"
This will format the hdd and wipe everything (games, saves, etc)
when it is finished you will be brought to a black screen asking for your last syscall (last cfw installed)
3. reinstall your cfw

If it freezes clicking on any options in the recovery menu, then your hdd may be damaged and need replaced with any 2.5" sata hdd.

Let us know how it goes.

You can plug it in after it is done reformatting the hdd.

No it does not delete your jailbreak, but it does remove the firmware.
The only way you lose your jailbreak is if you install an official sony firmware higher than 3.55

Should be like so:

1. Boot ps3 into recovery mode
2. Select option "restore ps3 system"

This will format the hdd and wipe everything (games, saves, etc)

when it is finished, you will be brought to a black screen, asking for your last syscall (last cfw installed)

3. On a fat32 formatted usb flash drive, create a folder named "PS3" (no quotes for any)
4. Inside the "PS3" folder, create a folder name "UPDATE"
5. Inside the "UPDATE" folder, place your "PS3UPDAT.PUP" file.
6. Insert the usb flash drive into the rightmost usb port of the ps3.
7. Follow prompt and install
