More than likely your console is overheating and damage is being done to your internals.

That's 149 degrees Fahrenheit, holee fuck that is hot, but going by You must login or register to view this content. among other threads, it seems on average, 50 to 70 degree Celsius is a good temperature for the PS3 to be at, and higher than 80 would be worrisome. You could still try to use the fan utility homebrew to get the temperature lower though.
