(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Was just looking at some FTP stuff then all of a sudden an idea popped in my head on maybe a way to downgrade.

You know those games that require updates to play them e.g: MW2. What if we replaced the firmware on the disk with a lower firmware? it could work if we edit the .PUP or something...

Do or Do Not, There is No Try
I really like your style of thinking. Its worth a shot.

There are sites on the Net that have all of the PS3 firmwares...

In the Mw2 ISO the PUP is stored in:
ROOT>PS3_UPDATE>UPDATE.PUP

We can use the backup manager to replace that file....

Climbing up the ladder
Not a bad idea, worth a shot if somebody can pull this off. Although if there is a minimum PS3 FW requirement on the MW2 disk, it is there already and obviously doesn't downgrade peoples FW that are higher than on the disk. Somebody would have to tinker with the files to make it tell the PS3 "Hey, you need to update your FW to this one!"

If somebody could pull this off, you could then burn the game files (along with the modded FW downgrade files) onto a BD disk and downgrade systems that cannot use PSJB/PSGroove etc. Since all you would need to do is put the game in the PS3, which would then prompt for a FW change.

But then again I am not sure if people have successfully played burned PS3 games on BD disk or not (without a hacked PS3).

yea i supose in the end your gonna need to play burnt games.. which is impossible at the moment.. or unless people with the PSJ want to get otherOS back..

Wont work because even if you replace the .pup file the ps3 will not downgrade because of a lower .pup file you would have to change the version inside the .pup and install it that way... but nice thinking Happy

And don't wear it out.
Yea, this would require modding of the actual firmware. Which has been attempted but not done.
Otherwise the PS3 would stop you from installing a lower firmware.

ROLL TIDE!!!
As far as I know the firmware is flashed on the nand chip, not in the hdd. So the nand actually checks the verison....(Don't know fully, only speculation).

So for you to do it, I would think you have to not only mod a file in the hdd to think that it is lower to get the lower fw.

But also, trick the nand to think it is flashed with lower..

This would be EXTREMELY difficult because even if you were able to get a Modern warfare 2 disk with a lower firmware you would have to make the firmware look like a higher version, there is no way that the PS3 would allow a lower firmware under any means on it....

SO find a way to make a custom firmware and have it say it is higher then the current firmware and it might be possible...
