I bought my 5th ps3 today (MOVE package, i collect consoles, don't ask ^^) and once hooking it up i was quite surprised that the stock firmware installed is 3.40.
I kind of expected 3.42, and i think most do, I am not sure about other ps3 systems currently being sold, i'd say most consoles sold in stores are about 2 months behind on updates ('old' stock, transport time etc).

I bought a 250GB PS3 yesterday and I hooked it up and it has 3.30FW on it

I have 2 unopened ps3's, i wonder which firmware my ceramic white, and mgs4 limited edition will have, 1.something i think ^^

The MGS one i bought a while back it had 3.0 or 3.1 on it, had to use it though, when my 60gb went out (YLOD), stopped using the 80 on 3.15, got a slim 120, been using that now

3.42 is still quite new. PS3's don't sell as fast as you might think. I don't think anyone should be worried about finding a PS3 with a 3.42 firmware at this time.

I actually never got around understanding that (using several ps3 to boost). How does that work, you can only play 1 at a time, or is that the part where i'm going wrong?

He has 5 PS3's with 5 copies of the same game, meaning he can go on with 5 different accounts and boost.

I understand that part.
I don't understand the part where you can switch fast enough on your screen to actually play 5 chars at once in a game, same goes for the controls.

Use one at a time to kill the rest and level up and get all the unlocks.
