Post: PS3 custom firmware released !!!!!!!!!!!

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A coder known as Jaicrab has released a homebrew app that lets you load custom firmware. The app does this by mapping dev_flash (where your firmware is normally stored) to dev_usb (your usb ports). This allows you to place custom firmware files onto a usb stick and have the PS3 utilize them. There is no risk of damage or bricking your console, as your firmware flash is untouched. All firmware changes are made to your USB stick. Now there are no custom firmwares currently available (yet), but if you want to go ahead and experiment, download your dev_flash with one of the file browsing apps, then place it on a usb stick. Start modifying files and note the results! A complete translated quote/instructions from Jaicrab’s site after the jump.

At least I can fight
That must mean that we can load up older firmware versions off of our USB Sticks like 3.40 or something like that. Even if there isn't no custom firmware available yet I'm sure this program will encourage more people to take a look into it.

This has already been posted like at least 3 times on NGU. Also your title is wrong. Custom firmware has NOT been released.

No to do this you must be jailbreaking your PS3. This means if you are on a Firmware that does not support jailbreaking (currently anything other than 3.41) you will be unable to use it (just now anyway)

And don't wear it out.
Really, there are like three different search buttons on every NGU page. Use 'em.

Anyways, no custom firmware has been released, and It doesn't really look like anyone's working on one right now. This just gives us the ability to load custom ones in the future.

Is anybody else thinking this could be used to modify that version.txt file in the PS3's flash?
