(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Yes, ok so I got curious and started messing with the old bypass methods. Seems using a proxy might still work, not DNS hacking.

If anyone wants to talk to me about this that has any ideas or information to further my theory, please message me on AIM: scooterwebwiz30.

I am mainly doing this b/c I am lucky enough to have 3.41 FW (Not on PS3 much) and I like to hack games, so I am trying to get a bypass figured out.

The following is what it has come down to in the ps3-updatelist.txt from sony's servers

# US
Dest=84;CompatibleSystemSoftwareVersion=0.0000;
Dest=84;ImageVersion=0000b307;SystemSoftwareVersion=3.4200;CDN=https://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2010_0907_6ba866514589155ab094099a9f358ffd/PS3PATCH.PUP;CDN_Timeout=30;

The CDN used is referencing to 3.42 but I have hacked that to go to 3.41 via PS3 ProxyServer. Kinda on the iffy side to update doing that.

From my tinkering, it seems that their are 2 main things the PS3 checks. The ImageVersion setting and SystemSoftwareVersion. It will use the other in the instance one is missing or has a bad value.

My main question, is how in the world does it calculate the ImageVersion. If anyone knows what the ImageVersion is, it would defiantly help me out.

So as I said, if you think you can contribute to this information then contact me..

[UPDATE]: I am dropping my attempts. Here are is what I can tell you. Sony is not making it easy. Your PS3 checks the ps3-updatelist.txt . It uses any valid information to check for an update. Someone actually found the 3.41 information in a forum. It was in JP, but I converted it. Afterwards, any attempt to login or access the PSN store seem to result in a UPDATE request! So it appears they are using the login server too, to give out update "notices". Bad news there. That involves packet injection through SSL (encryption), so good luck on that...

Unless anyone has a way of sniffing and injecting on HTTP port 443, we are outta luck. BTW the login server appears to be: auth.np.ac.playstation.net:443 .. Have fun touching that CDN server.

I wrote my thinking about it in this post. Your one step farther. So what i think the ImageVersion is kind of a Hardware id.

MAC Number + Serial Number + Faktor X

Good luck

Hmm well what I vote we should do is start backing up all versions of the update list. I have already backed up 3.42 incase of anything. Then just use that, since it is a real copy. If the image version depends on what accesses it, then giving out copies might not work.

So I recommend you download the update list asap and maybe even the update itself to make the PS3 happy. Think sony removes older updates from the server too, as I had a link to a older FW PUP and got a 404 Page error.

BACKUP YOUR PS3 UPDATE LISTS!!! If one of the open source jailbreaks rides on 3.42 and another patch comes out, those who copied it might have a bypass on their hands. Also I think that you would need to feed it the exact FW you have, as sony may have put in checks about the greater than or less than FW number as what was used in the past.

So in what I am thinking, is use PS3 Proxy server to feed the version you are on. When an update comes out, it wont know. You will just need to get copies of each version as they come and always stay a version behind to be homebrew...

BACKUP YOUR PS3 UPDATE LISTS!!!

Climbing up the ladder
get someone whos on 3.42 to get the update list and see what it says. compare it with are's (witch are's is saying to update to 3.42 but were on 3.41)

Ok then I am looking for donations of data. Anyone who has 3.42 FW update, please contact me. Anyone who has 3.40 FW contact me as well.

If you have it, send it to me. It could be the answer to a bypass!!

What I need: The ps3-updatelist.txt from sony's servers

Link: You must login or register to view this content.

It may not help, but worth a try. If anyone for some reason has an old updatelist saved, send it. Especially if it is 3.41!

At least I can fight
So this is kind of like patching the Host file on your PC, like when you patch adobe from giving you updates. Anyway, you may be on to something here but don't get your hopes up too soon

Hmm. Ok from a bit more snooping I have this. The ps3-updatelist.txt is a static file. It is not dynamically made on-the-fly based on who accesses it. The best chance to a bypass is to get older versions of it. So back em' up! I am saying this b/c I have confirmed that it is the same data no matter if I use firefox, Internet Explorer, or the ps3 browser!

So the only way it seems is to give the ps3 an older valid update information file... Looks like sony fluked up again. But please, if a bypass come, be smart. Don't leech, don't brag. Sony DOES AND HAS use the modding community pages to make patches.

You want a bypass, then stop talking, bragging, and advertising for christs sake, that is unless you want the bypass patched!

BTW packet injection is best used if the ps3 is checking fw over a direct tcp/ip sock connection, not the http protocol!

So do you randomly have an older update list saved? Please send to me for testing.

Thank You!

Hmm thanks for the idea. I was just using ps3 proxy server but that might be good as well with a proxy...
