1 : You must be on Firmware V3.41 for this exploit to work. If not this will
NOT work (for now)
now.
2 : You need the correct hardware to do this, here is a list of known working MCU's and the correct hexfile to use with each :
at90usb162
Teensy 1.0
at90usb646
Teensy++ 1.0
atmega32u4
Teensy 2.0
at90usb1286
Teensy++ 2.0
BlackCat
Teensy 1.0
AVROpendous v1.1
Teensy 1.0
atmega32u2
Teensy 1.0
at90usb1287
AT90USBKEY
Hexfiles (psgroove V1.0 - Patched) :

Flashing Your Hardware (This is for AT90USB MCU's) :
Install ATMEL's FLIP ISP software of which there are 2 versions available (One with JRE integrated and one without) :
Without :

With :

* Put the device in DFU mode
* Connect it to you pc/laptop
Follow this video tut to install the ATMEL USB drivers and flash it with your hex file :

You now have your own DIY PS3 backup tool.
Usage :
Fat : Switch the power switch off on the back, connect your DIY PS3 backup tool to the 1st USB port, Switch it back on at the back then press the power on button and then press eject immediately after, you should hear 3 quick beeps. (assuming there is no disc in the drive or it will eject the disc)
Slim : Unplug the power chord first (as there is no switch) plug it back in at the back then press the power on button and then press eject immediately after, you should hear 3 quick beeps. (assuming there is no disc in the drive or it will eject the disc)
NOTE : You will need to do this each time you want to boot your PS3 with the exploit
You should see "install packages" now under Game menu (you can now remove your DIY PS3 backup tool if you want)
Original backup manager.pkg (psjailbreak V1.0):
https://rapidshare.com/files/417687823/My_manager_V1.0.rar
Connect a USB stick with the Backup Manager on it to the second USB port (or the 1st if you have removed your DIY PS3 backup tool), the manager.pkg file must be on the root of your USB drive) and install it. (you can now remove your USB stick and plug in your ext. HDD)
When the "manager.pkg" file is installed, scroll down in the "Game Menu" and there you should see a new application called "Backup Manager", run it.
Now we're in the Backup Manager app. Insert the game in the console's optical drive which you want to backup. Press "O" and you will be asked where to make the backup, on the internal HDD or the external storage source connected via USB. (ext. storage devices will get an fwrite error if any
single file is above 4GB)
Obviously you only need to install the backupmgr once but if you want to install any other .pkg files its the same method
Here is a compatibility matrix which will be continually updated :
