so my question is a) is that correct?

and b) that means if u just took your hard drive out, chucked it into your desktop and wiped it u can keep upgrading and downgrading whenever you please??

No this is not possible because the firmware gets installed on the ps3 not n the HDD.

PS3 will always ask for the newest firmware installed if u have it on 3.50 u have to put that back in sorry.
