I have the IPSW file but its apparently incompatible and ive searched for the past 2 nights on how to do it and all they tell me to do is:
- Put into recovery or DFU mode
- Hold shift and update
- Open the firmware ive downloaded (1G Ipod Touch 3.1.2 )
- DONE.

and also ive tried changing my host files and blocking the "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" but that didnt work either.
Any iPod hacker could help me please? if anyone succesfuly helps me, i will invite them to my modded lobbies - NO CHARGE

Did you download the correct model version?

If you're on 1G, download this IPSW: You must login or register to view this content.

Then restore from that.
Also make 100% sure it's 1G, I always thought my 2G was a 3G and I ran into the same problem as you.

u have to download the file of the version u want and then u will get an error on itunes and just start up red snow and ur set

try downloading it again cause i have the same ipod and it didnt download fully and i got that error i am trying to host modded lobbies to
