Couldn't we determine the type of encryption they use and/or find a way to fake it, or a way to do a memory dump?

Yeh the ps3s appldr is what holds the encryption keys

heres a quote from Mathieulh "you can't decrypt it without a ps3, the keys for the updater are in appldr, you can't dump them short of exploiting it which has not been done yet. You can however use appldr (either directly or through lv2) to decrypt the updater for you."

Also some other really good sources:

I'll look into it in school tomorrow, If you're looking into it and find any info, don't release it publicly, keep it in premium if anything, I'm sure Sony discovered the jailbreak through a forum similar to this one

Isn't leaking from premium a bannable offense?
