1] Get on the right version of android.

2] Root your Hero

3] Install ClockworkMod

4] Make a backup

5] Install PSFreedom

6] Recover backup

Step One: Getting the right version

On your phone, go to Settings > About Phone > Software information > Software number

If you see 2.31.651.7, finish this step, if you see 2.31.651.6 or 2.31.651.5, skip this and move onto step 2.

BY REINSTALLING ANDROID YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE. BACKUP CONTACTS

To continue with the tutorial, we need to get you on x.6 or x.5, to do that, download this You must login or register to view this content.

Next, install HTC Sync onto your computer. You can get it You must login or register to view this content.

Now, plug in your phone and when the prompt comes up, tap the "HTC Sync" button.

Open HTC Sync on your computer. Once they are synced, run the .exe above.

Once the installation is complete, and your phone has booted again, go check the software number to make sure everything was done right. It should now read 2.27.651.6.

Step Two: Rooting your phone

Go to the market on your phone and install Astro file manager.

Download Universal Androot You must login or register to view this content.

Place Universal Androot.apk onto the root of your sd card by connecting your phone to your computer and selecting the "Disk Drive" option when the prompt comes up on your phone and dragging it there from your computer.

Disconnect your phone and open Astro. Find the UniversalAndroot.apk and tap it. There should be an option to open in package manager, do that. Tap install on the next screen.

Now, once installed, open Universal Androot and press Root. Allow it to process and then it should say "Woot woot, phone is rooted."

Step Three: Installing ClockworkMod

The hard stuff is pretty much done now. Go into the market and search for rom manager. You should see one that is devoloped by ClockworkMod. Install it like any other app.

Open up ROM Manager. There should be a prompt asking for superuser permissions. Press allow and remember.

Press flash ClockworkMod. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.

There should be a message saying it was successful, you're almost done.

Step Four: Make a backup

Go to the option "Backup current ROM"

Name it whatever you want and hit OK. Your phone will reboot and be in the recovery menu, simply wait for the backup to be made.

Step Five: Install PSFreedom / Use PSFreedom

Download You must login or register to view this content.

Place enable_ps.zip onto the root of your sdcard

Open ROM Manager and tap "Install .zip from sdcard"

Scroll down and tap enable_ps.zip

Do not check anything and tap OK. You will be taken to the recovery menu again. It will be much faster than making a backup.

Your phone will reboot.

Your phone is now in jailbreak mode! Use the instructions for every other JB and boot your PS3. After boot you can remove your phone.

Step Six: Recover your backup

MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS NOT PLUGGED IN DURING THIS STEP

Hold down the power button on your hero and once the prompt comes up, use the trackball to move down to shutdown.

Hold down power and the home button until you are at the recovery menu.

Go to nandroid > restore and select your backup. Press yes at the next screen and allow it to recover.

Your phone will reboot and be just like it was when you made the backup. Congrats you just jailbroke your PS3 with your HTC Hero!
