DOWNGRADING THE PS3
Sorry, I fell asleep last night :P
Can you not just very simply, download the 3.41 PS3 FW, open it with HxD and change 3.41 to 3.50?
During the update it says
"Be sure you have 3.50 or later installed on Portable Device."

Your tricking it into thinking it's 3.50 but really it's on 3.41.

ATTEMPT I
I just tried this method and I will report changing 3.41 to 3.50 does not work, I am now going to try 3.51 and if that also doesnt work I will format the USB to FAT32.

ATTEMPT II
I have just tried 3.51 and that has also failed. I will now format the USB stick to FAT32 and hope goes well.

ATTEMPT III
Formatted to FAT32 and received no luck. Read below for information on a great idea I had.

If it doesnt.. I have a plan.
heres a clue..
a0.ww.np.dl.playstation.net

THE PLAN
My plan is to use a Proxy Server (Anon?) whilst doing this, as that is where all the updates of the Playstation 3 are. I'd say PS3 is connecting to them servers to say whether it's 3.50 or not, and if you try to go down a firmware, it returns nothing. Might sound stupid, but the stupidest things become the smartest.

PLEASE NOTE
Soon a new System Update will be available. DO NOT UPGRADE as I've thought of the most ingenious idea ever.

If you read my updates you'd see I changed the HxD to 3.51. This will be the system Software Update and as soon as it's live it will enter into the PS3's Online Registry making this possible to be able to update to 3.51 with all the old things.[/b]

its good that people are trying themselves to get a downgrade working, yes maybe people have already tried this but nothing has been confirmed so thanks for actually trying your theory instead of posting hoping that other people will do it for you Smile good post :y: hope it goes well

If NGU was made up of people like you, we wouldn't get anywhere. So quite frankly, GTFO you retarded ****.

I also looked through FW Hex but its insanely complicated. Try disconnecting the system from the net and changing the '3.41' hex codes to '3.51' hex codes. Trick the ps3 into thinking that the 3.41 update is a new one. How else would ps3 assemble a new FW patch?

Other than that, the verification might not be on the patch at all... as for your proxy idea, Sony wouldn't do that because systems offline wouldn't get the patch verification... it must be either

a) somewhere in the update
b) on the hardrive
c) in the ps3's 'black box' (un-editable data log)

Our best bet would be 'a', 'b' would be insanely tricky and require co-operation of jailbroken ps3s, and 'c' is impossible. Good luck though! Don't get put off by these trolls and lowlifes who put you down. Your contribution and effort is well respected.

I agree with this guy, you can't let them put you down, it might not work, but who cares, at least your trying and not waiting. If you found the method then i bet you everybody that is trolling this thread would leach your method.

Uhm, if you are on FW 3.50, why do you change 3.41 to 3.50? Your ps3 would say that you don't need to upgrade i think... you should change it to 3.51. Also, if you edit the PS3UPDAT.PUP with HxD the PUP gets unsigned right? The PUP needs to be signed by sony or your ps3 can't install it. Or does it get unsigned by unpacking and repacking it? I have seen a PUP signer on youtube made in 17 October but i don't know if it works

EDIT: The download of the vid sends you to sharecash.... but the normal update is 167 mb and the file on sharecash is 169 mb so the PUP signer may be in it ( in the hope it is real ). I can't get past the sharecash because i only have phone surveys and i don't want to pay xD

All those methods won't work, because the PUP has some sort of signature, so you have to compile it with Sony's tools, you can't simply hex edit it. And using a proxy won't change anything, as once the file is downloaded the ps3 still checks if the file is a valid update (which means a greater version than the current firmware, and no, you can't edit this value to trick the system).
This has been said lots of times in this forum and around the internetz.
