Whats Happening?

Anyways just chilling here trying to contribute to the community. The title is very self explanatory so lets start. All this is homebrew. Only works on jailbroken PS3's on 3.41.

A port of Dolphin, a Gamecube and Wii emulator, is in the works for the PS3 by shinhalsafar and his team. Typically, we wouldn't report such an early WIP project, as the project has literally just begun. However, other sites are reporting it and shinhalsafar is a friend to You must login or register to view this content., so we know the project to be legitimate.

[multipage=Gamboy Advance and Gameboy]

I am pleased to finally release my teams port of VBA (Visual Boy Advance) to the public. It is a clean port of the most recent VBA-M emulator, that is fully functional, equal to our teams SNES9X-PS3 and FCEU-PS3 releases.

We spent some time optimizing it. The VBA-M source is not conducive to being run on the PPU. After applying many small optimizations we have obtained 60fps in all the important games.

Enjoy GB and GBA with shaders!

location. Is set to USRDIR by default.
Startup ROM Directory - Set the default ROM path to be used. The emulator will use this as the 'root' directory inside the ROM menu. Is set to '/'
by default.
DEFAULT - Set all of the general settings back to their default values

* - Might cause some problems on firmware FW 1.92 if you resolution switch too many times.

4. CURRENTLY KNOWN ISSUES (AS OF BUILD 0.9.9)
==========================================

4.1 RESOLUTION SWITCHING WITH 1.92 BUILD
========================================
1) Resolution switching with the 1.92 build may cause the program to crash after switching too many times. This issue will be hopefully resolved in
the future. The 3.41 build is unaffected by this.

4.1 SONIC ADVANCE 1/2 DON'T WORK
================================
2) Sonic Advance 1/2 currently don't work with VBA. This is a known issue and will be looked into.

5. NOTES
========

5.1 GENERAL NOTES
=================
* For people running this on HDTVs complaining about input lag:
- Turn off all post-processing filters you may have running - on Sony Bravia HDTVs, display Motion Flow (this also causes input lags
with most games in general, not just this application. If your HDTV has a 'Game' mode or something of the sort, select that as well.

5.2 PERFORMANCE NOTES
=====================
This emulator has been optimized to run most games at full-speed (at any resolution - 480p/720p/1080p).

Some of the games that are guaranteed to run at fullspeed (without frameskipping) are games like:

Advance Wars
Astro Boy
Castlevania - Circle Of The Moon
Castlevania - Harmony of Dissonance
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Golden Sun
Kuru Kuru Kururin
Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Mario Kart; Super Circuit
Mega Man Battle Network
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Mother 3
Super Mario Advance
Super Mario Advance 2
Super Mario Advance 3
Sword of Mana
Tactics Ogre - The Knight of Lodis
Wario Land 4
Wario Ware Inc

and so on.

As ever, your mileage may vary. Please notify us of games that won't run

7. FOR DEVELOPERS
==================

7.1 SOURCE CODE REPOSITORY
===========================
This release corresponds (roughly) with revision = 9c5e75c77b

Source code repository is here:

You must login or register to view this content.

7.1.1 GETTING LATEST VBA PS3 REVISION
=====================================
To be able to check out the latest revision, you must have Mercurial installed on your system. Type in the following:

hg clone You must login or register to view this content. vba-ps3

7.2 COMPILATION INSTRUCTIONS
===============================

7.2.1 FOR SDK 1.92
=====================
1 - Edit the Makefile and take out '-DPS3_SDK_3_41' from both lines:

PPU_CXXFLAGS += -DGEKKO -DPS3_SDK_3_41 -DPSGL -DPATH_MAX=1024
PPU_CFLAGS += -DGEKKO -DPS3_SDK_3_41 -DPSGL -DPATH_MAX=1024

So it becomes like this:

PPU_CXXFLAGS += -DGEKKO -DPSGL -DPATH_MAX=1024
PPU_CFLAGS += -DGEKKO -DPSGL -DPATH_MAX=1024

3 - Do 'make clean && make && make pkg'

7.2.2 FOR SDK 3.41
=====================

1 - Do 'make clean && make && make pkg'

7.2.3 TO MAKE A DEBUGGING-FRIENDLY COMPILE
=============================================
We provide a netlogger in case you want to have a way of debugging remotely.

1 - Edit the Makefile and comment out the following lines below the comment 'debugging':

#PPU_CXXFLAGS += -DCELL_DEBUG -DPS3_DEBUG_IP=\"192.168.1.101\" -DPS3_DEBUG_PORT=9002
#PPU_CFLAGS += -DCELL_DEBUG -DPS3_DEBUG_IP=\"192.168.1.101\" -DPS3_DEBUG_PORT=9002

The IP address needs to be changed to the IP address of the host machine that will be running netcat.

2 - Do 'make clean && make compile'.

3 - Install VBA PS3 on your PS3, start up netcat on your PC with the following command:

netcat -l -p 9002

4 - Start up VBA PS3. If all went well, you will see debugging messages on your PC with the netcat application.

7.3 CELLFRAMEWORK
===================
VBA PS3 is an implementation of 'Cellframework', which is written by the same developers as a rudimentary framework
for PS3 app development. It provides more-or-less complete classes for graphics, input, audio, and network.

Cellframework is a subrepository of VBA PS3. To update the subrepository, from the commandline, go to the folder and type 'hg up'.

Source code repository for Cellframework is here:

[multipage=Playstation]

An anonymous source has contacted us with some exciting, exclusive news. He has released a PSX emulator for PS3, entitled
PS3SX. The emu is a port of PCSX to the PS3. It runs at full speed, full screen, and supports CDDA and XA audio. This pre-release also features 2 player support, saving, and iso formats *.iso *.bin *.mds *.img.
You must login or register to view this content.

Currently the source code has not been released, but it will be once the emu is completely ported using just the PSL1GHT SDK. PS3SX will run on all retail 3.41 units (fat and slim). Currently it is untested on older firmwares and does not work on debug units (PS3 Test units).

Instructions: Install PKG file on PS3. Either use the folders from the rar file, or make "bios" "MC" and "psxrom" folders in the root of a USB drive. Download PSX bios file (google for it), and place it in "bios" folder. Place legally owned PSX backup ISO's in the "psxrom" folder. Run emulator and play!

Please note there is currently a bug with this pre-release. You can only quit the emulator when running a game. If you attempt to exit to XMB at the rom menu, the emulator will freeze.

Change log for v4.4.0:

- PAL issues are fixed at all resolutions - ghosting is gone.

- It's now possible to run NTSC ROMs and PAL ROMs alike correctly at 576p PAL mode. When the setting 'PAL60' is set to ON, a trick will be applied to get NTSC ROMs to run correctly at 50Hz mode. If set to OFF, it will run PAL ROMs correctly. Even though PAL ROMs will play normally now at 480p/720p/1080p, 576p still seems to run PAL ROMs slightly better - but it's probably unnoticeable to the user.

- Cheatcode files can now be loaded and selected/enabled ingame. Note that all zSNES and SNES9x cheatcode files are supported - everything with the .CHT extension. You can also set a Cheatfile directory. If you don't set a Cheatfile directory, the default will be USRDIR.

-Cheatfiles must have the same filename as the ROM. Here is how selecting and enabling cheats works in-game:

- Right analog stick - Left + L2 - Move cheat position back by one (-1)
- Right analog stick - Right + L2 - Move cheat position forwards by one (+1)
- Right analog stick - Up - Enable the currently selected cheat
- Right analog stick - Down - Disable the currently selected cheat

ONLY FOR 1.92 USERS:

There still remains the issue that with the FW 1.92 versions you can't switch the resolution easily - so I have had to resort to including two builds for 1.92 (just for the people who are running this on CRT TVs - the PS3 has this odd habit of picking as the best resolution exactly the resolution you do not want to use in the first place :P).

snes9x-ps3-4.4.0-fw3.41.pkg - this is the one most people would want to use - for firmware 3.41 and up

snes9x-ps3-4.4.0-576penabled-fw1.92.pkg - 576p is enabled in PARAM.SFO - so if you're running this on a CRT TV and your TV happens to be PAL, it will select 576p first and you're stuck with that resolution basically because there is no resolution switching with the 1.92 version (this has never been possible even up to now - but I'm just mentioning it for the first time since it's only now becoming an issue due to certain people using it on a CRT TV and getting stuck in PAL mode).

snes9x-ps3-4.4.0-576pdisabled-fw1.92.pkg - 576p is disabled in PARAM.SFO - so if you're running this on a CRT TV - even if your TV happens to be PAL, it will select 480p and you will be stuck with that resolution basically because there is no resolution switching with the 1.92 version.

BTW, for all people using this on HDTVs - don't worry about this long-winded explanation - it will automatically pick the best resolution for your TV with the 1.92 version. Resolution switching is possible with 3.41 so users with FW 3.41 get the best end of the deal at the moment until we figure out a way to be able to switch resolutions with 1.92.

Build 1.0 (20-11-2010)

- Initial Release, based on Vice 2.2.7

* Full-speed emulation

* Audio enabled (FastSID)
* Fullscreen support, 16:9, 4:3
* Video filters, with preview
* Autoload
* Warp Mode (Achieves ~ 350-700% actual speed)
* On-Screen Keyboard (partial support).
* Keyboard Support (partially implemented).
* Supports all known (uncompressed) formats (.d64 .d71 .d80 .d81 .d82 .g64 .g41 .x64 .t64 .tap .prg .p00)

Menu Controls

CROSS - Launches the emulator with the selected title set to fast autoload

TRIANGLE - Launches the emulator directly into C64 BASIC
SELECT - Settings / Configuration
START - Returns to the emulator

Vice Controls

CROSS - Fire

D-PAD - Joystick

SELECT - Swap joysticks

START - Menu/Configuration

TRIANGLE - Mapped to keyboard for 'Y'

CIRCLE - Mapped to keyboard for 'N' - Doubly mapped to 'UP' (See note 1)
SQUARE - Mapped to keyboard for

L1 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F1'

L2 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F3'
R1 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F5'
R2 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F7'

R3 - On-Screen-Keyboard (partially supported)

L2 + R2 - Warp Mode

*1 The CIRCLE button has been doubly mapped to the joystick 'UP' direction. This is useful for platform style games where the UP direction indicates a JUMP action. Clearly a difference in design aesthetics between joysticks and control pads, this might be more desirable.
Known Issues

- Compressed formats currently NOT supported (.zip .bz2 .gz .d6z .d7z .d8z .g6z .g4z .x6z)

- On-Screen-Keyboard is not fully mapped yet. Some keys will register incorrectly, if at all.
- Actual Keyboard support not fully implemented, but good enough for the minute.
- Does not save settings / configuration

Source code to be made available pending some serious cleanup and refactoring.

Thanks go out to Squarepusher, Shinhalsafar, Cm0nkey, Airmaker for their hard work on the Snes9x PS3 port, and their cellFramework library. This work also incorporates their menu system and config UI. Also to the original VICE team for creating a solid and well maintained codebase to work with. [/quote]
