Ok i've tryed this with my brothers ps3 (3.55) and mine, (3.41) i put his in mine and it said update, the firmwear is in the ps3's hardwear its self, people are trying to get it to update onto the harddrive but its not working, right now the only way to host if you've upgraded is to by a ps3 with 3.41,
