well ok first u need a ps3 3.41 for the chepest way
then get a normal usb and store ftp server on it with will be a pkg file. go onto the ps3 and plug the usb in while the plug is off the wall etc. then press on then eject quickly, after that is you done it right then on the game column theres should a new file install it then start. You dont need 2 ps3's, and you cant downgrade a new ps3 atm the 3.55 update cant be downgraded at the moment,

if you get a ps3 with 3.41 you can host on it, also if you want to host on one ps3 you can you need to upload the patch onto your ps3 via filezilla and ftp once you have dont that and tested it works in a split screen update your ps3 and then you will have a mw2 patch fully modded on your ps3, the only downside of the whole thing is that you might not be able to change the patch for along time untill the downgrade it foundout, also if you do buy a old ps3 please dont forget to upload backup manager,
