I tried this with a friend. With my backups. I sent different dat files to add into his backup. Needless to say the closest we got was "Rebuilding database" or restoring the users that's about it.

Its copyrighted meaning it'll work for you but It wont work for anyone else who uses your backup cause it recognises that its from a different PS3. The only way around that is data transfer utility. You might wanna do a search for JudyLovesPizza's patch exchange in under a minute, its basically the same thing its just been posted months ago.

yeah you can backup the patches from your own console but they will only work on your console
