Post: Geohot's Firmware Decrypter!

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The famous Geohot resurfaced today, to release a useful app called dePKG. The app is very useful for devs, that are planning to look into Sony's official firmware files. dePKG is a linux app, that will decrypt PKG files, that are within PS3UPDAT.PUP files (not to be confused with PSN PKG files).

This will allow devs to take a look at files such as CORE_OS_PACKAGE.pkg, from the convenience of their PC. Previously, the only way to take a look at these files, was via graf_chokolo's method, which utilized the PS3. Geohot's app is ready to be compiled and includes the necessary decryption keys.

With this, developers can decrypt our own modified .PUP files and encrypt them with the newly found Sony Encryption Keys!

Just to let you know Winky Winky!

How stupid people can get, the keys will let u encrypt a .pkg file as if you were SONY, now this is a huge security fail. This is all whats in to it. Yes these keys will let u host lobbies, but thats different shit. I mean, who cares about signing a single packge when you can sign the whole .pup file. I mean how beauitful it would be!

To clear some things up for the so called 'noobs':

With this program, a non-dev can't do anything with it. It is needed to encrypt .PKG files inside a .PUP file, but not to encrypt a .PUP file.
BUT:
With the recently discovered keys (by fail0verflow, Mathieulh and Geohot himself), there is a high possibility of getting something 'hacked' on your own console (as a newb, like meSmile)

Hope that cleared some of your minds Smile!

Erm, dont understand what your trying to explain to people here..

this tool DECRYPTS .pkg files inside the .pup, doesnt encrypt them, but waninkoko has released an encrypter in his tool.

.PUP files arent encrypted just packed, so you can use gPUP to extract them.

with decent source code i have a lv2_kernel.elf in about 15minutes Happy
