What model slim do you have? I have the same exact external working on my slim without issues, it may be the slim model or the external HDD itself, if that's not the issue i have no idea

Yes, everyday type atm is 2.0.

yes, it is, but a few ppl have 3.0

Have you tried it in the different usb ports? not just one of them on the slim
