Anyways I formatted it to fat32 but the PS3 still wont pick it up. I don't know why. I have tried the disk management and no luck either. The HDD is a 500 gb. WD My Passport Essential.

you sure you did fat32? Windows normally won't support formatting fat32 over 32gb, try using GUI format, it's free and can format drives up to 2Tb in size with fat32

Did that. My PHAT PS3 recognizes it but not my slim.

Oh, i had a similar problem and using that program fixed it, could be an issue with the external itself, or the PS3, my slim detects mine, so idk what to say

Yeah I did that too and I formatted and everything but my SLIM still wont find it.

I say it's probably a problem with the slim if the phat will still recognize it
