3.55 CFW's(Both are the same file just on different file hosting sites, some say megaupload is faster download)

Tutorial:
Rename the downloaded file to PS3UPDAT.PUP.
Create a folder on the root(not already in any folders) of a usb and call it PS3.
Create a folder in the ps3 folder on the usb called UPDATE.
Then copy the PS3UPDAT.PUP into the update folder.
Then put the usb into your ps3, go to system update and update by device or whatever.
For example, I put the PS3UPDAT.PUP in the Folder F:/PS3/UPDATE/

-Enables you to install signed .PKG files

UNTRUE MYTHS ABOUT THIS CFW
MYTH #1 This gets rid of my saves and game data!! Truth:This isn't true, it has save data utility and game data utility there in this new cfw download
MYTH #2 This will brick your PS3. Answer: no this will not brick your PS3, I have done it myself on two ps3s and it works fine.
MYTH #3 Sony can find people with this and ban them. Truth: No they can't, it runs exactly the same as official 3.55.
MYTH #4 You can't go online with this. Truth:You can go online, proof of this is the screenshot provided by xd366 as he's online with the custom firmware.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q:Whenever I put my usb with the firmware in it doesn't get recognised and says there is No applicable data found?
A: This means your doing something wrong, make sure the ps3 folder is on the root of your USB, for example mine was in F:/PS3/UPDATE if it was like that and doesn't work, then try a different usb device.
Also try this if all that doesn't work:
if your PS3 is still saying "no applicable update data was found" this is what to do,
1. Plug in your USB device with the update on it into a usb slot on the PS3.
2. Turn your PS3 off from the PS button
3. Hold the power button on the PS3 until the PS3 turns off again
4. Once the PS3 turns off again hold the power button until the ps3 beeps twice
5. Now a menu will come up, go to system update
6. Now just do what it tells you to do and it will install the update
Q: Can I host challenge lobbies on 3.55 or higher with this?
A: Not as of yet, you will only be able to do so once a FTP server program and backup manager is signed as official making it usable with CFW so you can put the patches and whatnot onto your PS3.
Q: When I try to run .pkgs, they don't work?
A: This is because they aren't signed as official.

Guys do a little search and read up. As of right now all this does is show that custom firmware can be added to retail systems. It necessarily has nothing to do with downgrading or upgrading via jailbreak. Its all about being able to run SIGNED pkg/code that could (and eventually will) lead to homebrew and everything else you can imagine. The only thing I've been able to do with this is run SIGNED pkgs, i.e demo's of games etc. Here's an interesting read on what I mean.

well thanks for the offer bud, but I am more than able to do it for mayself. I'm not the one to install anything from unknown 3rd partys, nore would I advise anyone to do so trying your CFW. sorry but your to keen for my liking. sorry thats me biting back.

Right. I downloaded both cfw files from the right places. 3.41 and 3.55. as I have 2 ps3's.
Now the ps3 with 3.41fw on dose not see the cfw 3.41 from the usb drive. nore dose the ps3 3.55 one. " but we knew this anyway.
The ps3 with 3.55 dose not see the cfw 3.55 update on the same usb drive but the ps3 with 3.41 dose. So I can upgrade my 3.41 ps3 to 3.55. and have the cfw without the jailbreak. or stop falling for this cfw crap and not fall for it by putting my other ps3 on 3.55 and losing all the goodness I can have staying on 3.41.

No problem. I know it can be very confusing since it is so new and so many people are trying to jump aboard all at once.
The thing to remember is that this is very early in the findings. If you are on 3.41 and have what you need out of your machine then keep it that way for now. Just keep an eye out on the upcoming developments and releases and then decide if its what you want to do. I look at it as I did with the PSP scene. Eventually an updated cfw will come out every time an OFW does. Its cat and mouse except this time there is absolutely no stopping it or so it seems. I personally only want Linux back on my machine, along with my nes super and sega emulators. It was nice not hooking up 5 different systems to play games I've owned since the beginning of time. :mad:

Ok I am a bit confused right now, this is a custom update that once you update you can install package files... First of all what are package files? Are they like custom applications? And second of all will this make your 3.55 ps3 go down to 3.41 and make it jailbreakable?
And sorry if this was already established i didnt feel like searching through all 51 pages to find out...

yes after you update you will some day soon be able to add packages.
Packages is software m8. thats all, programes that run as a package within an OS. drivers and files all in 1 package so to speak.
and no you can not downgrade from 3.55. full stop. so think hard before you upgrade you 3.41 if you have one.
