(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Table of Contents-
I-What are some terms and definitions.
II- Some things you will need (dependent on firmware)
III- What you can do thus far.
IV- Wrap up.

I-Definitions.
1. PS3- Refers to the thing bringing you here. PS3 is short for PlayStation 3.

2. Dongle-A dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to a Ps3. It is a portable device and is often close to the appearance of a USB flash drive, this item is used to put the PS3 into Service Mode to help with the Jail breaking(see #4) and Downgrading(See #5) Process.

3. CFW- This stands for 'Custom FirmWare', this is the software the PS3 uses to run but it is customized (hence custom) to add specific utilities not meant to be there.

4. Jail Break (JB)- This refers to MANY devices, a Jail broken Ipod, PlayStation, Xbox. It just means that the devices protection system has been bypassed and you now have complete access to the system and free range.

5. Downgrading- Downgrading refers to going from a new Firmware to a lower version, 3.50 to 3.41.

6. JailBraking Devices- Devices that will allow you to JB your device. You must login or register to view this content. (Credit to Ownage)

7. PuP- PuP is the file extension (I think its an extension) That Sony uses for its update files. Also known as FirmWare updates.

8. .pkg- This is an extension for the files Sony has that are signed with a specific key to allow only 'Sony Approved' items to be run on your console.

9. This 'Key'- This key is what Sony uses to sign ALL Files, games, apps EXCT. so the system will only run things with this key, but sony ****ed up and the number isn't Random like its suppose to be it is always the same. You must login or register to view this content. (Thanks to Shadowhunter)

10. Bricked- When you have a 'bricked' system it means it is as useful as..well a brick, just a big paperweight. If your system is bricked fallow You must login or register to view this content.. (Thanks ZoneTw0)

II-Things you may need (Dependent on Firmware).
1. A USB Flash Drive (pendrive)

2. One of the items listed in I-6. (Firmware 3.50 and lower as of now)

3. Patience, time, and a sense of respect, the Developers(Devs, Hackers, Those cool dudes) are normally doing this for us as a community. They take donations but they do NOT charge for their services (most of them don't) and we must respect this and not push them and flam them because they are not done when you want them to be done. Please support these people with good comments and feed back on their items they give us, but please don't yell at them. This is quality work we are given by them, FREE OF CHARGE. Don't ruin that.

4. Linux and/or Windows, some of the items you'll want you may need to compile yourself. (who ever said cheating was easy?)

5. A god damn brain, if you see a question that is close to what you want to ask in ANY forum, just post it inside that topic, don't make a new topic, and don't post fake Items, that is just idiotic.

III-What YOU can do thus far.
Well, for all of us on FirmWare 3.55, it is a work in progress, (why isn't it done now? Please refer to II-2).

For FirmWare 3.55

A- We can install a custom firmware, this is a gateway to items such as HomeBrew and other Packages, and eventually Piracy, like I said, it is a work in Progress. For this you will just need a FlashDrive and a Ps3 and You must login or register to view this content.. (Credits to Broseidon)

B- You can explore google, these forums and other places to learn more about Signing .pkg files that sony uses for all their apps and so on. You must login or register to view this content.(credits to [H4KS] Panda-v) and signing .pkgs (Link when I find a decent TuT)(not doable on 3.55)(Decrypter and a little more info on .pkgs You must login or register to view this content..) You must login or register to view this content.. (Thanks to The Middle Man)

Other then these two things you just have to wait for things to come out and be tested as workable.

Firmware 3.50 and lower.

A- Downgrading, which will bring you to 3.41 and let you JB your ps3. You must login or register to view this content. (Thanks to viper262)

With downgrading and JB your device you are able to do all the things we, 3.55 FW owners, are waiting for.

Edit-(thank you ice_cream_man)

As far as package signing goes, its not the only thing keeping this from happening instantly. (DRM, PUP etc) but I suggest people read up on the signing method and even play around with it if your interested or want to help.

This little read breaks down the variable stages of signing: You must login or register to view this content.

And of course the best way to learn about all this stuff is to actually play around in it.
For you mac kids, check out a free set of tools called Xcode Tools: You must login or register to view this content.

And Windows there is an even better version with tons of flexibility with a program called Eclipse: (You must login or register to view this content.

IV- Wrap up.
Hopefully anyone needing some questions answered can come here and find what they need, my idea was to pick some TUTS, add in some other items of intrest, and put it all together in one big post. Granted this isn't the cleanest, nor the most in depth but I do intend to add more, I just need to look into the forms a little more for all the information I need, but this is my start, and my beginning in the NGU forums.

Also, a side note. The tuts I picked, I have NO gain in linking the Individuals, nor do I think theirs are the best, I just saw them and decided to use them with no intent to put one above the rest. IF you have a tut you want me to use here please PM me and I will be more then willing, if its decent and pertains to this topic, to add it in.
I know these things have been posted before but they are scattered in the forum and slowly drop to the end, hopefully I can add enough to this to have it stickied and we can eliminate some of the BS topics being stared on here 50 times. Please if I missed something Important PM me and ill add it in with credit to you for fixing my ignorance! :bro:

Edits- Added link to revers algorithm to sign .pkg. Textual edits.
Added link for fixing bricking plus definition.

I know these aren't tools that deal directly with the ps3 but its the same concept. Perhaps a port is in order for linux or run on a JB ps3?

Its better than sitting around trolling countless posts for a release that isn't here. :black:
