well here it is. This is custom firmware for the ps3 based on the official 3.55 update.
you will need to download the rar file and extract the contents to the same folder (note: You need to extract all the files separately safest way is install You must login or register to view this content. and open the downloaded rar to view files).
the psupdat.dat file is ready patched to re enable the bug exploited by all versions of the usb jailbreak but you will obviously have to country patch it and secure sign it using the non public master key included in pupsigner.exe.
once that has finished transfer the psupdat.dat file to a usb stick and update the ps3 from there
it will find and ask to install firmware update 3.56 this will allow people to patch a 3.55 system. However once reset it will revert to showing 3.55.
you now do not need to jailbreak your ps3 using the psjailbreak dongle or similar as any signed homebrew will now install.
main features of custom firmware: Usb exploit reinstated, mac code randomisation, all automatic updates are now blocked disk or online. Working online and on psn store. We are using an undisclosed master key that was recently discovered during this process as such reverse engineering of pupsigner.exe is forbidden. If the ps3 master key goes public then this exploit will most likely be blocked by sony. Recent developments with the private key being reversed will soon be incorporated into the next updated pupsigner to enable you to create your own self files! Which will mean a massive increase in the amount of things you can do with your ps3. Linux is deffinatly back custom xmb is on the horizon.
you will need to acquire the backup manager separately - google is your friend.

a1: Not on its own no. Once you install this update you will re enable the usb bug to allow you to jailbreak your ps3 using one of the many usb methods currently available such as You must login or register to view this content. (search youtube for others ports such as android phones inc htc, ipod, palm pre, ti-84)
a2: If you use a backup manager that has been signed using the new keys you will not need to jailbreak your console.

a: Yes, but this patched firmware will block all means of update except usb stick

a: Then the new firmware will/should get patched and released for usb update.
