Exploits the fact that ps3swu.self gets run during a firmware update. He just made a custom firmware replacing that file with the jailbreak payload.

No the firmware jail breaks without the dongle. The jailbreak works just like the jailbreak did in 3.41. Except that you have to sign files with his key that he added if i got what he said right. And the jets won so any time soon his tools will b out.
