How to install GeoHot's cfw: (thanks to juddy)
you will download "PS3UPDAT.PUP". Connect your storage device and create a folder named "PS3" and go inside of it and then create another folder named "UPDATE". In here put the "PS3UPDAT.PUP" file.
Connect the storage to your PS3 and go to "Settings" and the first option "System Update" and select "Update via Storage Media". Go though all the options and install. When your PS3 beeps wait till it turns off itself, this is important do not turn it off yourself please!
Now on reboot you will have a new option under the Game section called "Install Package Files" this is what the custom firmware installs for us. The next page will go through how to install a program to let you run modded lobbies.

Today 1/10/11 Netkas and flukes1 have successfully managed to patch the PS3 lv2_kernel in v3.55 Firmware to allow peek and poke syscalls, meaning PlayStation 3 backup managers and Custom Firmware (CFW) will also be able to make use of them!

From the ReadMe fileatch to add peek and poke syscalls to PS3 firmware v3.55 by flukes1 and netkas (irc.efnet.net #ps3test)

To create the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP:

1. Use bspatch to apply PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff to Sony's official 3.55 PUP, which is available from their website.
2. Run this from command line: "bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-NEW.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff"
2. Ensure that the md5sum of the resulting PS3UPDAT.PUP is: 337831fac6a9b05074f73710c4bb7c86
Simply install the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP onto your PS3, then install geohot's jailbreak.
Our PUP can be installed over any firmware version, including 3.55-geohot. If you install over 3.55-geohot, you must reinstall geohot's jailbreak afterwards.
For developers: peek is syscall 6, poke is syscall 7 (same as PL3 dev payload)

im kinda afraid too, cuz all of geohots warnings about patching lv2, was it would brick the system....maybe its just cuz he doesnt want us pirating?....but either way im sketch until someone who doesnt give a crap or has 2 ps3's tries it first and confirms working.

EDIT: And if i decide to test it, do i just download the pup and isntall it on ps3 like normal? or do i have to do some special stuff to it?...the TUT kinda confused me for a sec...lol

UMM, used the geohot, should i have done the cfw thing first or wut o.o, tut confused me, but then i got it... but still dont kno why i should make the cfw, can any1 give me an explanation of the last tut? and wut it does
