Would you mind going into a little bit more detail as to the signing a pkg, or when someone would have to sign one? Thanks in advance.
Yes you can use Geohot's cfw and comgenie's file manager but it must be signed. What geohot do was make a custom firmware that can run homebrew signed with his tools, if you are unsure whether or not its signed or not just try and install the package file and if it doesn't let you install it or says there was an error then chances are it is unsigned. All old homebrew is most likely unsigned, go to geohot.com to look for the tools that he has given us. I also have a signer program but I am not releasing it due to the fact that it is not needed.

Packages unsigned means that it is not verified or seen on a ps3 as "Official" Sony products and therefore will not be allowed to be installed into the system, unless you are pn 3.41 or lower with jailbreak. The 3.55 cfw pretty much just allows for the "install package files" ability.
+rep if I've helped please
