You can thank flukes1 and netkas for this one… Here is a patch that adds peek & poke syscalls to PS3 Firmware 3.55. From what I understand, with peek & poke, Backup Managers can easily be adapted to work with said firmware. But first, you must do this:
Download OFW PS3 3.55 here
You must login or register to view this content.
Download flukes1 and netkas’ modified PUP (includes bsdiff too) here
You must login or register to view this content.
Download geohot’s modified PUP here

If you’re running geohot or KaKaRoTo’s CFW, restore OFW 3.55 first:
Ensure the OFW 3.55 PS3UPDAT.PUP is in /PS3/UPDATE/ on your USB device.
Power down the PS3.
Now press and hold the power button, the system will startup and shutdown again.
Release the power button, then press & hold power again, you’ll hear one beep followed by two consecutive beeps.
Release power then follow the on-screen instructions. You’re now in the recovery menu.
Connect the USB device and select “System Update.”
Patch OFW 3.55 with “bspatch” and the “bsdiff” file:
bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-PEEKPOKE.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff
You may need to Google for bspatch. For OS X users it’s already installed; call it from Terminal.app. Windows users, you’ll be using your command prompt.
Ensure the resulting md5 sum of PS3UPDAT-PEEKPOKE.PUP is this: 337831fac6a9b05074f73710c4bb7c86
Rename PS3UPDAT-PEEKPOKE.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and copy to your USB storage device under /PS3/UPDATE/ overwriting the previous one
Now flash this newly generated PUP to your PS3 running OFW 3.55 from the Settings -> System Update menu
Upon success, flash geohot’s modified PUP and you’re set
Wait for a newer Backup Manager
Thanks to everyone who emailed this in. You know who you are.
Update: I’ve patched the 3.55 PUP for you. You can download it here
You must login or register to view this content. Remember: install OFW 3.55 first, then this peek & poke PUP, then geohot’s.
Update: flukes1 and netkas have released v2 of their patch. This one should work. There were problems with the previous version I guess. Whatever the case, the resulting patched PS3UPDAT.PUP should have the md5 sum of cd72d63f1a616ecf786ff382bfae671a.
Update: Here
You must login or register to view this content. you’ll find a simple GUI to patch the PUP yourself. Doesn’t get any easier than this. By the way, I’ve updated the downloads for you too. Here
