Requirements:

blackb0x FTP Server
A PSN account
A computer with an FTP client
Any png-formatted image


  1. Install and run blackb0x’s PS3 FTP Server
  2. Download any small image (about 10KB) and save it as “me.png” onto your desktop.
  3. Connect to your PS3 with any FTP client. Set the host as your PS3 IP address. No username or password is needed.
  4. Locate your avatar file. It should be located in the following directory: dev_hdd0/home/000000XX/friendim/avatar/me.png (the XX is the number of your user)
  5. Overwrite me.png in the above directory with your custom avatar (me.png on your desktop).


Exit and you should now have a custom avatar!

The custom .PNG is only visible from your point of view, no-one on PSN can see it, and you cannot have custom Avatars broadcast over PSN as the orignal Avatar URL is still within np_cache.

This was also discovered years ago, nothing new!

it would have been epic if your friends could see the custom avatar too. But it's still cool.

Yea i was playing around with this before this post. Like when i first jailbroke my ps3, its pretty cool. U can even change ur friends avatars, but keep in mind only u can see it, it wont change on anyone elses ps3
