we all know it basically leads to piracy and thats what you all want it for. (99% on here anyway!!)
I've lurked in here long enough and listened and cant hold my tongue any more.
I work for "the man", i wont say what dept. for fear of reprisals. And the last thing they are doing is "quacking in their boots" by this. they have already extracted 80% of the PS3 revenue by people buying the thing. the problem comes down to others (game dev companies, shareholders and the like) thinking Sony aren't doing anything to combat this.
This is to placate those who have a real interest in sony revenue and nothing else. sure they might get lucky and find a loophole or law to catch Geo on, but thinking they have no way of stopping this is totally wrong. Guys I work with had hacked the PS3 (and every other consol) days after release and they know every hack possible (and more). Sure they could make it un hackable, but then the game code becomes so complex that people wont program. So what they decide on is the BEST option for what its worth.
Rant over - PS all the guys at sony love this site and we're reading every day. (every 5 mins in my case) - and my stance is "good luck to all hackers - info should be free and accessable to all!"

Most people I know who work here have some sort of JB or had at some point.
We bricked the one in our canteen not so long ago, trying stupid stuff.
although i dont work on consol's, the product i do work on we actively try an reverse eng. or own and others products constantly. its all part of future dev and security. we mostly know were the weaknesses are before rls and mostly have updates ready if found (harder for our stuff, but not for games i'd imagine)
To create a secure product you first have to know where the possible holes are. in our case the Iphone hacks have been great and we rofl'd hard.
I agree this has to back underground to keep the movement of dev going forward without reprisal's as it look as if they'll take anyone to court for a "show down"
